This design increases clamp load whilst maintaining lighter pedal effort versus a standard “Push Clutch”
The original manual gearbox for a 1JZ-GTE engine is an R154 and this gearbox originally used a pull clutch from Daikin.

It also eliminates the need for unreliable push-pull converters used in cheaper clutch upgrades which significantly increase the clutch pedal effort.
